The Emergency Medical Responder Class (EMR)

The PHSA Emergency Medical Responder EMR course trains applicants as entry-level medical professionals who will prepare patients for industrial, pre-hospital, first-responder settings. In fact, PHSA’s EMR program gives its students the hands-on skills and knowledge they need to encounter medical and trauma-related emergencies until EMTs or paramedics arrive.

Upon course completion, applicants can continue their education towards national certification as EMRs through the National Registry of EMTs. PHSA’s emergency medical responder course also meets the National Standard Curriculum for Emergency Medical Responder developed by the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Emergency Medical Responder Class Applicant Requirements:

  • 18 years of age by course completion
  • No criminal convictions
  • Good moral character and strong motivation to serve
  • Satisfy ORC 4765-12-07 requirements (Scope of Practice)
  • High School Diploma or GED

This EMR course offers 66 hours of didactic instruction. Students will participate in 28 lessons created by the U.S. Department of Transportation. PHSA has also combined its American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course with the EMR class.
